Kady Orloff-Diaz is a total badass and I might be in love with her. She is the only Physical Kid who can do battle magic without having to use emotion bottles to turn off her feelings because her self-control with magic is unparalleled.

Kady is not a legacy at Brakebills. Her mother was a hedge who had to scrape and claw her way to her by, and we don't learn much about her father. Kady grew up knowing that hedgewitches are treated like crap and she's have to work ten times as hard for the same respect other magicians get. She unfortunately ends up having to leave Brakebills due to circumstances out of her control, but she befriends Julia and their friendship helps Julia return to herself.

In the later seasons, Kady becomes the unofficial head hedge. The Library is controlling magic, and her people are being harmed by it, and she will not stand for it. She rages against Zelda and appeals to her better nature to convince her to assist Kady and Alice while they investigate the attacks on hedges. After watching her people get dumped on her whole life, she has had more than enough.

Kady is such an amazing example of a person who never thinks of themselves. She's so focused on creating a world where her people can thrive that her own needs never come up. As a result she has everyone in her corner.
