All That Hard, Glossy Armor
"I'm a king. Not a princess. A king."
Margo Hanson is my favorite character in The Magicians. Outwardly she's a stunningly beautiful, competitive, highly intelligent badass who knows who she is. She never backs down from a fight, and she always keeps a cool head. She likes sex and drugs and school and sports, she is entirely devoted to her best friend Eliot, and she does not apologize for who she is. She sacrifices a lot, including her eye, to make sure Fillory is safe.
But Margo is also really angry, all the time. Because she *can't* have it all and still be liked. She feels betrayed by a world that told her she can be anything, but then met her with nothing but criticism when she did grow up. She's too pretty, too smart, too outspoken, too much. But then she meets the rest of the Physical Kids, and grows her own little family of weirdos who are also all too much. By the end of the series, she accepts that she doesn't have to change and if someone doesn't like her, it's their problem.
Margot's colorway, All That Hard Glossy Armor, is named after my second favorite episode, which focuses on her. I wanted this yarn to evoke the feminine spirits that play a huge role, as well as the sand that she has to painstakingly sort for iron grains to create her axes, Sorrow and Sorrow. The sock set comes with a mini of You Better Be Able to Speed Read.
