The Slippery Slope
The Slippery Slope
Our next stop on our journey through A Series of Unfortunate Socks is The Slippery Slope! In this chapter of our mystery club, we will encounter kidnapping, a bad example of smoking, and Carmelita Spats!
Sunny is kidnapped by Count Olaf after he forces the Baudelaires to burn down Caligari Carnival. Klaus and Violet follow him to the Mortmain Mountains to retrieve her, and along the way they encounter the third Quagmire triplet, Quigley. While her siblings plot her escape, Sunny is forced to do all of the chores for Count Olaf's troupe, which places her perfectly to do some spying. The children are all reunited, only to be forced to split up again when they must run from Esme!
The Slippery Slope is a very frustrating portion of our tale. For me this book felt like climbing slowly up a mountain with no equipment, only to slide back whenever you made a bit of progress. It feels truly hopeless. The skeins for this mystery set will be swirls of blues, purples, and browns, and will ultimately feel as cold and frosty as this story.
