February: Hook
Our 2025 mystery sock club is kicking off with a huge food fight!
The movie Hook is truly one of my childhood favorites. It might only have a 29% on Rotten Tomatoes, but don't let that fool you! It was directed by Steven Spielberg, John Williams did the score, and it stars Robin Williams, Dustin Hoffman, Julia Roberts, Bob Hoskins, and even Glenn Close makes an appearance.
Hook is a movie about what would have happened if Peter Pan left Neverland and grew up. Peter's children are kidnapped by Captain Hook and he must follow them back to Neverland to save them. When Peter finds the Lost Boys again, he must regain their loyalty so they can help him. It's such a wild ride, and it's so much fun, I just don't understand the critical disdain!
The pivotal scene in the movie occurs when Peter needs to regain his connection to imagination, to his inner child, to the boy that ran amok through the woods with his friends and terrorized pirates. The Lost Boys site down to a table full of empty plates and bowls, and they all imagine a great feast. Once Peter is able to see the food along with the boys, his rival, Rufio, picks a fight with him, leading to a massive food fight among all the boys. That scene was absolutely electric to me when I was 6, so I couldn't think of a better option for our first Finger Foods club.
Our mystery sock clubs come with one full skein of the sock yarn of your choice (options below) and one mini 20g skein of the same. The sets will be based on fun food scenes from the chosen movie each month.
